Early Learning Centre

Our Early Learning Centre (ELC) is a haven for active young minds and busy bodies in an engaging play-based environment. Established in 2014, the ELC offers a bespoke approach to early childhood education and recognises the importance of fostering curiosity and exploration in our littlest learners.

With qualified Early Childhood teachers leading the way, supported by a team of dedicated assistants, we ensure that every child’s developmental journey is met with care and attention. Our ELC seamlessly integrates children into our wider school community, enriching their experiences through participation in various school events and activities.

Operating five days a week, from 8am – 6pm, our program achieves key developmental milestones for our 2-4 year olds, while providing an engaging space for social and emotional growth, where every child is known and nurtured.

Pre-Kindy

Our Pre-Kindergarten program is the perfect pathway to prepare youngest students with a readiness for learning and a smooth transition into primary school. Tailored to our four-year-old learners, our Pre-K curriculum combines structured learning with activities aligned to their natural inclination for exploration and discovery.

Delivered by our amazing Christian teaching staff, this program offers a comprehensive approach to early learning, emphasising each child’s unique learning style within our supportive school environment. With flexible hours from 7.30am to 6pm, our Pre-K students benefit from a blend of classroom-based instruction and integrated activities within the Early Learning Centre.

By providing opportunities for interaction with older students and participation in school-wide events, we ensure a comfortable and seamless introduction to the broader school community, setting a strong foundation for future academic success.

Primary Education

Music

From Kindergarten to Year 6, students are immersed in a tailored musical learning journey, starting with bell lessons and progressing to instruments. We delve into music theory and guitar for older students and offer optional private lessons with external music teachers in guitar, piano, drums, and violin.

Our vibrant choir and the ‘Every Chance to Dance’ programs are popular among our students and provide ample opportunities for artistic expression and collaboration.

School excursions are more than just outings at CCS but provide transformative experiences that enrich our students’ learning journey. Each term, our students eagerly anticipate these adventures outside the classroom, with excursions such as exploring Cockington Green, engaging with the Canberra Symphony, or connecting with nature at the Farmyard Nursery.

These hands-on experiences give students a deeper understanding of the curriculum and a greater appreciation for the world around them.

Sport is an integral part of school life at CCS and we encourage every student to lead an active and healthy lifestyle. From Kindergarten to Year 6, students enjoy participating in a diverse range of sporting activities that promote physical health, skill development, and sportsmanship. Whether it’s through weekly sports lessons, district programs or sessions with sporting professionals, every student is encouraged to actively engage in sports activities tailored to their abilities and interests.

Our school fosters a connection with nature and animals to help our students find balance as they learn and grow. Through initiatives like the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program, students learn valuable gardening knowledge and gain practical skills in planting, harvesting, and cooking nutritious meals. Exciting regular interactions with animals like rabbits, chickens, and fish promote empathy and environmental stewardship among our students.

Language development is a cornerstone of the curriculum at our school and reflects the global community we are all part of.

Mandarin is the primary language taught at CCS and through engaging weekly lessons, our students develop conversational skills, expand their vocabulary, and gain cultural insights, preparing them to thrive in our interconnected world.

By embracing diverse languages and cultures, we empower our students to become global citizens with a deep appreciation for diversity and communication.

Our school is blessed with well-equipped learning and playground facilities which give our students an interactive environment where they can learn, grow and flourish.

From generously sized classrooms to specialist learning areas, our campus offers ample space for students to engage in diverse experiences. With a focus on both indoor and outdoor learning, our facilities encourage movement and exploration, fostering creativity and collaboration.

Our well-stocked library promotes a love for reading, while our healthy vegetarian canteen ensures students are well nourished. Our central campus location in Canberra offers convenient access to amenities in the city while providing a lush and spacious place for students to thrive.

Our dedicated team of Christian educators provide a vibrant and caring Primary School learning environment where every student can thrive. Our curriculum goes beyond the essentials to offer specialist subjects and unique learning opportunities tailored to each child’s needs and interests.

Throughout our Primary School years, we instil our values that reflect the essence of our Christian faith. We live by these principles which begin with the pursuit of excellence, recognising and utilising the gifts given by us from God to achieve our potential and serve others. Compassion is woven into our daily interactions, fostering a culture of kindness and empathy towards all members of our community. Humility is celebrated, as we teach our students to acknowledge their achievements without seeking glory. Respectfulness also forms the cornerstone of our ethos, encouraging wise and considerate behaviour. We nurture integrity by modelling and encouraging honesty, while justice guides us toward what is right and fair. Discernment is cultivated to empower our students to make thoughtful choices in every aspect of their lives. We teach students to take responsibility and ownership of their words, actions and decisions.

Above all, hope permeates our environment, as we live with joy and certainty in the promise of our future. These values are not just taught but practised daily, shaping our students into compassionate, responsible, and resilient individuals ready to make a positive impact on the world.
